About

Saint Martin Sailing Club (SMSC) is a French non-profit association governed by provisions of the Law of 1901. Our registration number is W9G3005257.

We exist to put sailors on fast boats, in some of the most reliable trade winds in the Caribbean, and teach them to sail those boats well. Our focus is high-performance multihull sailing — Diam 24 trimarans, Formula 18 catamarans, and an ORC 50 catamaran, trained and raced right here in Saint Martin — and everything we build, from coached training blocks to a full racing calendar, serves that one goal: real skill, built through time on the water.

We believe that time on the water changes people and the way they see the ocean. It builds a deeper appreciation for its power and beauty, and leaves an impression that lasts long after the sail ends. That connection to the water is exactly why raising awareness about the environment matters so much to us — we want every sailor who comes through SMSC to leave with a stronger understanding and a sense of responsibility for protecting it. That's an important part of the experience we set out to create and why we always welcome new sailors.

Speed isn't the only thing we're building, though. You don't need to already be a racer to find a place here, and we measure success as much by who we've welcomed in as by who's crossing finish lines first.

Maybe you're simply curious about multihulls and want to see what all the speed is about. Maybe you've sailed monohulls your whole life and are looking for something faster to test yourself against. Or maybe you're one of the many who've traded a colder home for trade winds and turquoise water, and you're looking for a place on the island that feels like yours. Whatever brought you here, there's room for you at SMSC.

That welcome extends past our own members and customers. SMSC runs community sailing programs, open to all island residents who want to experience multihull sailing, whether or not they can afford training fees or a membership. If cost is the only thing keeping someone off a boat, we'd rather find a way around it than turn them away.

Our community runs on more than sailing talent — it runs on people willing to pitch in. Race committee, event logistics, boat maintenance, coaching support: if you've got a few hours and some enthusiasm, there's a role for you, whether or not you're the one steering.

That volunteer spirit isn't incidental — it's the whole model: SMSC is a non-profit association with no paid staff at all, so donations and program fees go straight back into the club rather than into a payroll. If you're curious exactly where that support goes, our Donate page lays it out.

Being based in Saint Martin isn't incidental to what SMSC does. The island's steady trade winds and the protected waters of Simpson Bay Lagoon are a big part of why high-performance multihull training works here. It also means training happens in one of the Caribbean's best-known sailing destinations — home to the Heineken Regatta since 1980. Fly into Princess Juliana International Airport and most of the island's marinas, including ours, are just minutes away.
